Leasing

Half-lease

To get the experience of owning a horse for a fraction of the cost, one person can half-lease a lesson horse for $235 a month. During a half-lease makes, a person can ride the horse at any time the horse is not going in lessons. This is predominately during the week and outside any scheduled riding times on the weekend (lessons are usually 10am to 2pm on weekends). The horse can also be shown, travel to clinics, or go on trail rides. The lease includes a free 30 minute riding lesson by Amy to assure the horse and rider are in harmony. Half-leasing is a great way to experience a horse without having to own one.

Whole-lease

Certain horses are available for whole lease for $470 a month. During a whole lease, the horse is not used for lessons. This fee covers all horse expenses – board, feed, farrier and maintenance health care (vaccinations, deworming, probiotics, vitamins, etc). The horse can also be shown, travel to clinics, or go on trail rides. People leasing a horse can have a free 30 minute lesson with Amy. A whole lease situation allows full access to the horse as if the leasee owned the horse. It is a great way to “own” a horse without having to purchase one. Leasing is also great for horses because it assures their future so that they are not bought and sold into oblivion.

Horses Available:

Taxi – Available for Half-Lease

Taxi is an 19-year-old Quarter Horse. Taxi and Amy competed in the 4-H and AQHA circuits in English and Western in Montana until moving to Kansas City, where they then competed in Dressage competitions through second level. Taxi is the type of horse who can do anything you ask – from flying lead changes to half-pass to taking care of a beginning rider. She is a careful, intelligent, kind school-master who has a competitive side and loves to show off!

Taxi has been exposed to Western and English riding, with Dressage as her forte. She is ideal for any rider – from the beginning rider who would like to get used to horses to the intermediate level rider seeking a trained horse for upper level movements to the advanced rider who would like to compete.

Star – Available for Half or Whole-Lease

Star is a 20-year-old Thoroughbred mare. She began her career as a racehorse (her race name was Starterm) and then was rehabilitated into a trail horse. She has Bold Ruler in her bloodlines (Secretariat’s sire). Star is a good-natured, easy-going, balanced horse who is very responsive to riding aids. She has been going well in Dressage – currently a first level horse. She has given birth to a wonderful filly, Lilac, who is now five years-old.

Star would be a perfect horse for someone who enjoys light riding, trails, and simply being around horses. She has had a previous hip injury which prevents her from strenuous conditioning.

Lilac – Available for Whole or Half Lease

Lilac is a 5-year-old Appendix Thoroughbred (a Thoroughbred-Quarter Horse cross). She is a green broke horse, but is a wonderful mover, has great conformation, and shows exciting potential. This horse can certainly go in any direction with her training – jumping, eventing, dressage, or western, cutting, and reining. Star is Lilac’s mother and her father was a Quarter Horse reining stud.

Lilac would be a wonderful horse for someone who is interested in learning how to develop a horse from the beginning. This kind of training includes much groundwork, lunging, long-lining, and trust-building. By leasing Lilac, Amy will show you the basics of developing a young horse. Working with young horses is an exciting, tender, and educational experience for both human and horse.

Vertigo – Available for Half-Lease

Vertigo is a 6-year-old Holsteiner-Quarter Horse cross. Taxi is his mother and his father is Calme, a top-rated Holsteiner stallion from Kansas City. Vertigo has been undergoing training since he was 2- years old and going under saddle since he 3-years old. He is very curious and very funny – he certainly has a great personality. He has become very consistent under saddle and is a big mover with fantastic gaits- he is a horse who can fly!

Vertigo would be a wonderful horse for someone who wishes to understand the aspects of schooling horses. He is currently a training level horse. By leasing Vertigo, Amy will show you the essentials to advancing horses and setting them up for success with a lifetime partnership with humans. Truly understanding the horse-human partnership can be fully achieved by working young horses.
